To start, we would like to thank all of the community and staff for all of their feedback these past few weeks. This is an important decision that required thoughtfulness and resourcefulness. Given the amount of details and hours that were spent working on a solution, we know a plan for everyone may not fit for everyone and we are thankful for everyone's flexibility.
Hockinson School District staff members have collaborated to reach an agreement that will enable us to make up school time lost to our recent snow days. We will finish our school year June 16—only one day later than originally scheduled. Here is how we plan to do it:
- Jan. 27, Feb. 17 and June 16 will become regular school days. (Jan. 27 had previously been scheduled as a teacher in-service day, and the other two were snow makeup days that had been built into the calendar.)
- Beginning Jan. 30, we will add 20 minutes to the end of every school day until we have fulfilled the state-required number of instructional minutes.
- We anticipate returning to our regular schedule before the end of May. Since we are still in the month of January, we have a built in a buffer to continue the proposed schedule into June if we have more snow closures.
The Board approved this plan at its meeting last night. The board has the district schedule as a regular board meeting agenda item until we are beyond the possibility of any future snow events. Most likely in March, we will give the community an exact date when the new schedule will return to our regular schedule.

A plan for families of afternoon preschoolers has also been made and will be communicated later today to you directly.
Once again, best regards and thank you all for your patience!
