Good news about Hockinson’s future Middle School: Students and staff should be able to move into their new digs a semester early -- in fall 2017!
The school district and contractor Robinson Construction rearranged the project’s phasing, so instead of working on part of the new school site at a time, workers will have access to the entire site right away. This enables them to eliminate an intermediate step that would have involved pouring some of the new building’s pads this year and some next year.
The downside is that HMS will lose its play area for the 2016-17 school year, but Robinson is setting up rental equipment for student use. Also, the auxiliary gym will be removed from the back of the main gymnasium, and an unused portable classroom will be transported to the Elementary School for future use.
These changes will give the contractor full access to the new school site, including the ability to install the full track and plant seed on the field this fall—more than a year ahead of schedule.
Currently site prep work continues, with footings scheduled to be poured by the end of August.
