Hockinson schools earn state recognition

SBE recognition

The State Board of Education (SBE) has recognized Hockinson Heights Elementary School and Hockinson Middle School for demonstrating growth and supporting students.

The two HSD schools were among 391 schools in Washington that received state recognition in April for closing gaps, showing growth and demonstrating achievement between the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 school years.

According to the SBE, schools recognized for growth are improving performance across multiple Washington School Improvement Framework (WSIF) measures and, in Hockinson, across one or more of the following student populations: “All Students,” “White” and “two or more” races.

“Our district is growing both in enrollment and diversity, but we are still a small district where personalization is possible,” said HSD Superintendent Steve Marshall. “We’re committed to working together to focus on each and every learner in our schools. It is encouraging that this collaboration and commitment is translating into improved success for students of all backgrounds and ethnicities. We are excited to receive this recognition. I think it is an indication that we’re headed in the right direction and I am hopeful that we will see continued growth in the years ahead.”

The recognized schools will receive a banner from the state to display. To learn more about why schools were recognized, and to see the data behind the recognition framework, visit sbe.wa.gov/2018-19-school-recognition-methodology.
