Welcome to HMS

Welcome to Hockinson Middle School, home of the Hornets! It is my honor to join the staff and students at HMS as the new principal this year. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces at HMS this Fall and to meeting the new Hornets just joining our school.

HMS staff know that kids do well if they can. We strive to help every student make academic and personal growth by helping them to think critically, develop life skills, and make positive contributions to the school community. We teach our students that Hockinson Hornets are  H—Honorable,  M—Motivated, and S—Safe and Secure. Students explore these key traits in their daily Home Base class where they build a community of learners with their classmates.

HMS students are exceptional and we honor all of the things that make them such resilient, caring learners. We celebrate students’ academic achievement, effort, and improvement, as well as those who demonstrate exceptional character.

Parents and community members are an important part of our school community. This year, Hockinson Middle School will be building a PWT (People Working Together) team to support our school community. PWT events will include a welcome to school picnic, fundraisers, school spirit wear for students and staff, and school wide celebrations. We encourage families to support HMS students by attending a concert or sporting event, volunteering at HMS, attending parent-teacher conferences, and taking part in school events.

At HMS we are committed to academic excellence. HMS courses are designed to meet each student at their instructional level so that each student is challenged to achieve their full potential. Students are taught about the importance of having a growth mindset so that they can continually grow as learners. Students can select electives to enrich their academic experiences in the arts, world languages, STEM, mathematics, writing, and leadership. Hornet scholars take part in Math Olympiad, Math Counts, Knowledge Bowl, Geography Bee, Spelling Bee, and STEM Girls and demonstrate their knowledge in academic competitions throughout Clark County.

We look forward to a wonderful school year.

Go Hornets!
