Letter from HMS Principal Bess Colpron:
I am excited to welcome you all to HMS, home of the Hornets! We are incredibly lucky to be part of a positive and welcoming community. This is my first year as principal at HMS and I am excited to embrace the opportunities that await us. It is a priority of mine to work alongside students, families, and educators. It is my goal to always have respectful and open dialogue with our community to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all of our students.
Students are the heart of HMS and everything we work towards as a school community is in service to students. Families are an important part of our school community. I am looking forward to working with you to best serve our students.
We are a community school that serves around 480 students in grades 6th through 8th. We are always looking for ways to engage our students in experiences outside of the instructional day. There is a direct correlation between students who participate in activities and academic achievement. We want to harness that connection to help students meet their goals.
Additionally, kindness is an important value to our school community. Kindness is key because it encompasses the belief that we might not agree with each other, we might not know one another, but we can always be kind. When interacting with students, families, and our school community, I am committed to leading with kindness.
I encourage you to check out our social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram. It’s a great way to get snapshots of what is going on during the school day.
I am looking forward to meeting all of you and working with you. It is important to me that you have an open line of communication with me. I am always willing to communicate and talk with families around questions or concerns. I also enjoy hearing from families about what is going well. Feedback provides opportunities for me to reflect on our practices as a school community. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
