HHS art students win regional awards

Into the Light

HHS student artists Rachel Edmonds and Samantha Hills were presented with awards March 19 at the Southwest Washington Regional High School Art Show.

Rachel’s “Into the Light” was selected as a Regional Award winner and will continue on to Olympia for statewide competition in April at the Annual State Superintendent of Public Instruction Art Show. Regional winners were selected based on points received in four categories: originality, composition, emotion and technique.

Samantha’s “Reflection of Habitat” received an honorable mention award and a $1,000 Central Washington University scholarship award.

For the past 46 years, the art show -- held at Educational Service District 112 -- has provided an opportunity for area art students to receive recognition and exposure for their work. This year, it received 229 entries from high school students from throughout the six-county region of Southwest Washington.

Congratulations, Rachel and Samantha!
